372: Try a Spiritual Experiment with us. It’s short, sweet and you’ll shape it!

(Special note to readers:
If you’re here for our unfolding DARWIN discussion, click here and you’ll find it.) And, now, today …

WE NEED TO TALK.
All of us do. It’s part of our daily spiritual journey.
What do we really need to talk about? Ways to lift up goodness in our lives. Today, we’re going to tell you about three cool things you can try along with us to accomplish that goal. First, we’re introducing a Spiritual Experiment today —

No. 1: TWITTER WITH US
(Tweet, please. Tweet?)

Today, ReadTheSpirit, plus a documentary filmmaker whose work shines a light on Nepal — plus Tarcher-Penguin Books are launching an experiment in sending out helpful, daily thoughts via the red-hot personal-messaging service Twitter.
If you’re not familiar with Twitter, it’s a free online service that sends out just the short-and-sweet notes that people got used to writing in the little box at the top of their Facebook home pages. Mainly, Twitter is overflowing with random notes about people “sitting down to dinner” or “meeting Tina for coffee” or “back from a long dog walk.”
But, Twitter is also a wonderful opportunity to write what amounts to daily spiritual poetry — to share an uplifting quote, a thoughtful idea, a helpful update about our world, a line of prayer — perhaps with a brief link to a good book or article for further reading. In other words: A short-and-sweet message that you’ll actually welcome.
At their best, these little lines might even represent a moment of grace in your day.
How do you “share” in this experiment with us?

YOU CAN READ ALONG:
We’re starting with three once-a-daily feeds. If you’re signed up for Twitter’s free service, you can follow ReadTheSpirit’s feed here: http://twitter.com/DavidCrumm Then, visit Tarcher to follow its experimental feed: http://twitter.com/TarcherBooks Finally, if you want to follow the experimental feed from Butter Lamp Films about Nepal and “Sari Soldiers,” request to follow: http://twitter.com/TheSariSoldiers

YOU CAN READ ALL THREE AS A STREAM:
We’re adding a little tag in our Twitter Tweets: #RTSpirit
That tag allows all of the notes in these experimental feeds to show up, over time, in a stream on the “HashTags” aggregation page: http://hashtags.org/tag/rtspirit

YOU CAN JOIN US
and HELP SHAPE THIS:
If you want to chime in — we welcome your voice. The idea is that Tweets tagged with #RTSpirit will be helpful little notes that people will welcome reading. Most will be uplifting — but some will be thought-provoking lines about the needs of the world. All of them, we hope, will be little verbal nuggets you’ll welcome. So, please, help us shape this experience, if you wish. Simply become a part of Twitter, if you’re not already, follow the feeds — and when you feel moved to add a spiritual thought — add the “tag.”

WE HOPE TO ENCOURAGE and HONOR THE BEST:
This is a challenge. It’s like writing pastoral poetry or striking spiritual notes. From time to time, we’ll publish “The Best” of these for readers on our Web page here or perhaps in our Monday-morning Planner newsletter. (See below if you don’t get the Planner.)

No. 2: COME ALONG INTO “OUR LENT”

We’re an interfaith magazine that encourages cross-cultural experiences. For more than 1 billion Christians, Lent begins on Wednesday, this week. TODAY, you can check out our special http://www.OurLent.info/ section of this magazine, which already offers some pre-Lent gems — and “goes live” on Wednesday.

No. 3: SHARE YOUR SPIRITUAL SEASONS

Today, we’re also introducing Stephanie Fenton, our new Seasonal Correspondent in a feature that readers of our Monday-morning Planner newsletter have come to enjoy: “What’s the Spiritual Season?” Check it out — and, please, we always welcome hearing from you about the seasons that shape your life.

PLEASE, Tell Us What You Think.
This is a good time to sign up for our Monday-morning ReadTheSpirit Planner by Emailit’s
free and you can cancel it any time you’d like to do so. The Planner
goes out each week to readers who want more of an “inside track” on
what we’re seeing on the horizon, plus it’s got a popular “holidays”
section.

Not only do we welcome your notes, ideas, suggestions and personal
reflections—but our readers enjoy them as well. You can do this
anytime by clicking on the “Comment” links at the end of each story.
You also can Email ReadTheSpirit Editor David Crumm. We’re also reachable on Facebook, Digg, Amazon, GoodReads and some of
the other social-networking sites as well, if you’re part of those
groups.
