In this animated film Alex, Marty, Gloria and Melman are still in Africa. The trickster penguins fly off promising to re turn. Believing that the penguins are sincere, the four friends trek off for Monte Carlo in the hope of catching up to them. They create mayhem at a posh gambling casino where the penguins are trying to pull off a scam at a roulette table, and soon the police and the buxom Captain Chantel DuBois are in hot pursuit of them. She is obsessed with adding Alex the lion’s head to her large collection of animal heads decorating a wall of her den.

Knowing that they stand out in the human world, the friends manage to join a circus heading for Rome, and then Italy. Crazy antics, beautiful scenery—of the cities and of the Alps, and a spectacular light show-like circus performance at the end. Fun for all, whether or not seen in 3-D.
