Brother Outsider the Life of Bayard Rustin (2003)

This documentary is great preparation for the dramatic film Rustin that I wrote about a couple of weeks ago. Until that dramatic feature film comes out on Nov. 3 in select theaters and then on Netflix Nov. 17, this exciting documentary about Bayard Rustin, often called the Civil Rights Movement’s “Forgotten Man” will whet your appetite. I’ll be reviewing and posting the result within a couple of days. You can watch the film for free on YouTube  or on Kanopy (a free library of films available through your public library membership.)

The organizer of the March on Freedom stands immediately behind MLK at the Lincoln Memorial, even as he stood in the background of Dr. King in Montgomery in the previous decade. (c) The American Documentary
